Selkirk Dental Clinic provides comprehensive dental care services including but not limited to:

  • Periodontal Care: Gum disease treatment, gum grafts

  • Endodontic Services: Root canal therapy

  • Oral Surgery: Wisdom tooth removal, surgical extractions

  • Sedation Dentistry: IV sedation, nitrous oxide, oral sedation

  • Pediatric Dentistry: Specialized care for children

  • Emergency Dental Care: Urgent treatment for dental emergencies

Service Limitations

All services are provided based on professional dental standards and within the scope of practice authorized by the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. Some complex cases may require referral to specialists.

3. Patient Responsibilities

Medical History and Information

You are responsible for:

  • Providing complete and accurate medical and dental history

  • Informing us of any changes to your health status, medications, or allergies

  • Disclosing any previous dental treatments or complications

  • Following pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions

  • Asking questions if you don't understand any aspect of your treatment

Outstanding Balances

Accounts with outstanding balances may:

  • Be subject to interest charges after 30 days

  • Be referred to a collection agency

  • Result in suspension of future services until resolved

  • Incur additional collection fees and legal costs

Your privacy and the confidentiality of your health information are protected in accordance with:

7. Treatment Outcomes and Warranties

Professional Standards

All treatments are performed according to accepted professional standards. However, dentistry is not an exact science, and we cannot guarantee specific outcomes or results.

Factors Affecting Treatment Success

Treatment outcomes may be influenced by:

  • Individual healing responses

  • Patient compliance with post-treatment instructions

  • Underlying health conditions

  • Oral hygiene maintenance

  • Lifestyle factors (smoking, diet, etc.)

Important: Warranties are void if regular maintenance appointments are missed or if damage occurs due to trauma, teeth grinding, or poor oral hygiene.

8. Sedation and Anesthesia

We offer various sedation options to ensure your comfort:

  • Nitrous Oxide: Mild relaxation for anxious patients

  • Oral Sedation: Pill form medication for moderate anxiety

  • IV Sedation: Deep sedation for extensive procedures

Sedation Requirements and Responsibilities

For your safety, sedation patients must:

  • Have a responsible adult driver and companion

  • Follow pre-sedation fasting instructions

  • Arrange for post-sedation care and monitoring

  • Avoid driving or operating machinery for 24 hours

Risks and Complications

While rare, sedation carries inherent risks that will be discussed during your consultation. Emergency protocols and monitoring equipment are in place to ensure your safety.

9. Emergency Care

Dental Emergencies

We provide emergency dental care for urgent situations including:

  • Severe tooth pain

  • Lost fillings or crowns

  • Broken or damaged teeth

Emergency Contact

For dental emergencies during business hours, call our office immediately. After-hours emergency instructions are provided on our voicemail message.

Life-Threatening Emergencies

For life-threatening medical emergencies, call 911 immediately. Do not delay emergency medical care by contacting our office first.

10. Limitation of Liability

Professional Liability

Our liability is limited to the professional standards of care expected in the dental profession. We maintain professional liability insurance as required by law.

Limitation of Damages

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from our services shall not exceed the amount paid for the specific treatment in question.

  • Services provided by referred specialists

  • Laboratory work performed by third parties

  • Prescription medications or their side effects

  • Treatment complications resulting from undisclosed health conditions
